This project involved the migration of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey’s website and content to a new Content Management System powered by WordPress, in addition to a new Constituent Relationship Management tool powered by Blackbaud that would manage and record donor and volunteer interactions both online and offline. Everything was built using the latest HTML5 and CSS3 specifications. Since the website needed to be accessible to all who are interested in finding help or donating, compatibility with all versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome were achieved using the Modernizr javascript plugin.
While this project was an upgrade of the website’s backend to a much more user-friendly and stable platform, the prior existing visual identity was kept to maintain the website’s brand identity. Despite this, there were numerous visual enhancements, with several upgrades to cleaner-looking layouts, progressive CSS3 enhancements, and heightened focus on readability and navigability. Additionally, the FoodBank expressed a interest in increasing user engagement through social media channels. As such, we introduced a Facebook commenting system and integrated social sharing throughout the site.
Since the organization is very events driven, a custom WordPress plugin was created and integrated with the Isotope.js javascript plugin, which would provide an easily sortable visualization of upcoming events across all departments.
